Poncela emphasized that this is not merely a &#8220;document folder,&#8221; but an ecosystem redefining the interaction between the private sector (Banking, Insurance, Telcos) and their customers eliminating onboarding friction and shielding transactions against impersonation.<\/p>\n<h2>The roadmap toward mandatory adoption<\/h2>\n<p>The deployment of the <strong>European Digital Identity Wallet (EUDI Wallet)<\/strong> is not optional for major strategic sectors. The regulation establishes critical milestones that organizations must integrate into their digital transformation plans:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>December 2026: The Public Administration Milestone.<\/strong> Member States must make the free digital wallet available to citizens. In Spain, the FNMT is leading the development of this tool, which will include PID (Personal Identification Data) as its core identity.<\/li>\n<li><strong>December 2027: The Private Sector Challenge.<\/strong> This is the regulatory tipping point. Under <strong>Article 5f (5 septies)<\/strong> of eIDAS 2, specific private providers excluding micro and small enterprises will be obliged to accept the EUDI Wallet. The PKI model allows for smoother integration with current public sector systems and ensures integrity through the use of certified <strong>HSMs (Hardware Security Modules)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The ecosystem is divided into four critical roles:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>PID Issuers:<\/strong> In Spain, the FNMT will issue identity linked to the DNI (National ID) via digital or in-person onboarding.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Authentic Sources:<\/strong> Public or private entities (Land Registry, Universities, Banks) providing verifiable attributes (account ownership, academic degrees, property).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Relying Parties (Verifiers):<\/strong> Companies that request and verify data.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Governance Model:<\/strong> Coordinated in Spain by the <strong>Ministry of Digital Transformation and Civil Service<\/strong> and <strong>SEDIA<\/strong>, ensuring traceability and certification of all actors.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Strategic implementation guide: From regulation to opportunity<\/h2>\n<p>For organizations, the adoption of eIDAS 2 should not be perceived as a compliance burden, but as a lever for operational optimization. These are the three pillars of the transition:<\/p>\n<h3>Phase I: Security Infrastructure Alignment<\/h3>\n<p>Companies must audit their cryptographic systems. The eIDAS 2 implementing acts are extremely specific regarding <strong>HSM<\/strong> quality. Entities acting as issuers of qualified attributes must possess cutting-edge security certifications to guarantee the integrity of electronic seals.<\/p>\n<h3>Phase II: Management of &#8220;Attributes in the Broad Sense&#8221;<\/h3>\n<p>The true business value lies in attributes. This Selective Disclosure approach (using formats like SD-JWT VC or ISO mdoc) reduces the attack surface for cybercriminals and minimizes GDPR liability for companies.<\/p>\n<h3>Banking and insurance: Cross-border KYC<\/h3>\n<p>An Irish citizen will be able to open a Spanish bank account 100% digitally in seconds, sharing their PID and financial attributes from their Irish wallet. Validation is automatic, eliminating human error and document fraud.<\/p>\n<h3>Telcos: Fighting SIM Swapping<\/h3>\n<p>By using authentication linked to a secure device and a state-issued identity, critical processes like SIM card duplication will have a layer of biometric and cryptographic security, making impersonation nearly impossible.<\/p>\n<h2>Conclusion: From compliance to competitive advantage<\/h2>\n<p>The implementation of the <strong>EUDI Wallet<\/strong> transcends logistics; it is a redefinition of trust in digital channels. With a severe European sanctioning regime including fines of up to <strong>5 million euros or 1% of global turnover<\/strong>, early adaptation is a priority for business resilience.<\/p>\n<p>However, the true value lies not only in avoiding penalties.
