The primary purpose of our identity wallet is to store credentials that allow you to verify your identity. However, the same technology enables the issuance of different types of credentials, including verifiable tickets or access passes via QR or barcode, similar to Apple and Google Wallets. The wallet does not store documents per se but can create a credential with the data from a document, such as a disability certificate.
Including the capability to store payment credentials and compatibility with Google and Apple Wallet passes is on our roadmap, but it is not expected in the short term.
We are not a QTSP. Our wallet’s development is based on protocols and standards that will facilitate interoperability, a challenging yet critical feature that both EUDI Wallet and eIDAS are promoting. This is because the wallet ecosystem only makes sense in a trust-based and collaborative environment. Our wallet’s architecture is designed to be adaptable to new standards and regulations that may come into effect.
In any field, when something becomes a trend, it’s important to differentiate. Therefore, our wallet aims not to be just a traditional wallet; it seeks to introduce differentiators such as facilitating access to operations that can be performed with the wallet, providing advanced security for critical operations to ensure that the person sharing a credential is its legitimate owner, and enabling accessibility features to bridge the digital divide.
Yes, we have followed many of the recommendations outlined in the ARF and have adopted the same solutions as the Italian wallet. However, the first version will not be EBSI Compliant due to national regulations that do not allow the use of Distributed Ledger Technology. Nonetheless, our goal is to adapt our solution to be eIDAS compliant.
Some of our key differentiators in the market include:
To provide context, the four pilot projects testing the EU Digital Identity Wallet (EUDI Wallet) are:
These pilot projects represent a significant step towards the implementation of an interoperable, secure, and widely accepted digital identity solution across the European Union. Each project focuses on different sectors and use cases, demonstrating the versatility and potential of the EUDI Wallet to facilitate digital transactions and access in a variety of contexts. The projects are primarily focused on interaction with public administrations, but there is a long way to go in offering solutions to the private sector.
To achieve a user-centered design, Veridas collaborates with ILUNION Accessibility, a market leader in accessibility across all environments and a promoter of workforce inclusion for people with disabilities. ILUNION Accessibility will conduct a detailed study of the functionalities and requirements necessary to ensure the application is fully accessible to all users. Furthermore, it will validate the solution with the implemented accessibility features, ensuring compliance with the highest accessibility standards.
Additionally, the valuable participation of the Hermes Institute, which will conduct a study on the impact on digital rights, is included. This collaboration will ensure that the proposed solution is not only technically accessible but also respects and promotes the digital rights of all users, reinforcing Veridas’ commitment to inclusive and ethical technology.
Yes, most use cases are based on secure identity verification for operations. Some use cases, such as the storage of educational credentials, are not on our roadmap due to a lack of use cases, but our wallet platform would be prepared for it. However, others like contract signing or payments are not in the short-term roadmap.
IATA’s ONE ID initiative aims to modernize and streamline the identification process in the aviation industry, allowing passengers to move through airports without needing to present identity documents or boarding passes at multiple points. It uses biometric technology to verify passengers’ identities, seeking to make travel more efficient and secure.
Compared to Veridas’ identity wallet, ONE ID specifically focuses on the travel experience and is designed to integrate with airline systems and airport security controls.
On the other hand, Veridas’ identity wallet offers a broader and more versatile solution that can store not only travel credentials but also other types of digital credentials, such as identity documents and access cards.
The main difference lies in the scope and application of each solution. While ONE ID focuses on improving the air travel experience, Veridas’ identity wallet aims to provide a comprehensive solution for the secure storage and verification of various digital credentials across multiple contexts, not limited to the aviation industry. This allows users to have broader and more secure control over their digital identity and facilitates its use in a variety of everyday situations, from accessing government and financial services to participating in events and interacting with physical security systems.
Lastly, ONE ID’s management to allow physical access requires very precise synchronization of users who have checked in at each terminal. However, Veridas’ identity wallet allows storing Biometric QRs for 1:1 authentication without the need to synchronize anything with physical access terminals.
