Madrid hosted on 27 May the Identity & Business Day Spain 2025, an event organised by Veridas, in collaboration with Google Cloud, which brought together experts and leading companies around a crucial issue for the present and future of digital services: digital identity as a pillar of trust.
For more than two hours, representatives from companies such as ONCE, Waylet, Plazo and Aplazame shared their real experience with Veridas solutions, addressing key aspects such as security, accessibility, regulatory compliance and improving user experience.
Identity as a starting point
The event started with a speech by Eduardo Azanza, CEO of Veridas, who underlined the need to address digital identity as a starting point for any technological transformation:
“If I don’t solve the identity problem, I don’t have a reliable digital transformation. Because I don’t know who is on the other side of the screen”.
Azanza explained how injection attacks and deepfakes are redefining the threat landscape, and presented the vision of Veridas as a true “identity operating system”, a platform on which organisations can build verification, authentication and credential management solutions, including the new identity wallets.
Javier Pérez Trigo, Head of Digital Natives at Google Cloud, shared with the event attendees how the global partnership with Veridas not only includes “working together in sales and global distribution of their solutions through our market place, but also co-innovation in the development of artificial intelligence”.
Modern biometrics: secure, ethical and irreversible
One of the most prominent topics was modern biometrics, based on Renewable Biometric References (RBRs). RBRs, based on ISO/IEC 24745, overcome the risks associated with traditional systems by being reversible, not reusable between systems and based on artificial intelligence.
“Modern biometric technology is based on renewable references. This is not the future: it is the present. And it’s the way to protect ourselves against deepfakes and identity fraud “
– Eduardo Azanza, CEO of Veridas
Accessibility: technology as an opportunity for inclusion
One of the most emotional moments of the day came from Cristian Sáinz de Marles, head of Digital Work and Accessibility at ONCE, who focused on the importance of building truly inclusive technology:
“Rather than looking at the 86 rules to comply with, put a face to us. Remember Cristian when you design your interfaces. Accessibility is an ethical imperative, not just a legal one”.
Sáinz de Marles explained how Veridas solutions, especially voice biometrics, can facilitate access to digital services for people with visual, hearing or motor disabilities, transforming barriers into opportunities.
Case studies: identity as a business driver
At the roundtable, representatives from Waylet (Repsol), Plazo, Aplazame and ONCE shared how Veridas technology has positively impacted their businesses.
Carolina Calvo, COO of Waylet, highlighted the balance achieved between security and user experience:
“We want to improve the user experience while maintaining a high level of security, because in the end that balance between UX and protection is super important.”
Víctor de las Heras, Head of Transformation at Plazo (ID Finance), stressed the importance of digital identity for regulatory compliance:
“The solution allows us to comply with one of the most critical pillars in money laundering prevention and KYC. It protects us against any regulatory review.
From Aplazame, Javier Yuste (CTO) put the focus on agility as a competitive advantage:
“It’s always the one who gets there first that wins. Agility in adopting new technologies is what gives you the edge over your competitors. Those who use digital identity speak of the past. And those who don’t use it talk about the future.
He also underlined the joint work to find the balance between usability and security:
“Veridas has helped us a lot in that process. We fine-tuned the solution together, but we got it right. That balance has been key.
Identity wallet: sovereignty and trust
Another major player was the digital identity wallet, a user-controlled container of credentials. Veridas presented its solution based on European standards (OpenID for Verifiable Credentials), with benefits such as selective disclosure, revocability and interoperability.
“The wallet is a great business opportunity. It’s not the future, it’s the present. We can do it now.
– Eduardo Azanza
Measuring real impact
Attendees agreed on the importance of measuring results with concrete metrics. Among the most relevant ones mentioned during the event
- Reduced friction in the onboarding process
- Success rate in identification and proof of life
- Reduction of contacts to the customer service centre (Waylet)
- Automation of document validation (Aplazame)
- Impact on collectability and reduction of non-payments (Plazo and Aplazame)
An identity for all
The event concluded with an inclusive and optimistic vision. Digital identity is not just a technical tool, but a strategic lever that allows organisations to grow with confidence, to be more accessible, more secure and more agile.
“People with disabilities are very loyal customers to those who make us feel like real customers”.
– Cristian Sáinz de Marles, ONCE
“It is essential to put ourselves in our clients’ shoes. We don’t do technology for technology’s sake, but to solve real problems”.
– Eduardo Azanza, CEO of Veridas
Veridas, building the future of identity
Identity & Business Day Spain 2025 was much more than a day of presentations. It was a demonstration that it is possible to build a more human, more secure and more inclusive digital ecosystem. From artificial intelligence to regulatory compliance, from voice biometrics to digital wallets, Veridas showed why it is the trusted partner of choice for global leaders to tackle the most crucial challenge of the digital age: knowing with certainty who is on the other side.
