Last Friday, 12th April, one of the most important events of the year for the Guardia Civil, one of Spain’s national law enforcement agencies, took place at the Baeza Academy: the swearing in of the flag by the students of the 129th Promotion of the Scale of Corporals and Guards of the Guardia Civil and the 170th of the College of Young Guards of the Guardia Civil of Valdemoro (Madrid). In an event of this magnitude, the security and efficiency of access is key. On this occasion and given the good experience and adoption of last year, the entrance to the enclosure counted again with the biometric facial access system developed by Veridas.

And how? Very simple: attendees only need to show a biometric QR on the terminals located at the entrance, which they receive when registering, along with their face. This method guarantees fast and convenient access, without the need for physical tickets or tickets, and without staff intervention. In addition, it ensures that the attendees are those officially invited and registered. Unlike last year, the system used on this occasion was the innovative ZeroData ID, which allows attendees to own their data at all times. This data is only stored in the QR code they carry with them, thus avoiding the need for the organisers to store it.

The more than 12,000 attendees gained access to the venue quickly and efficiently through the facial readers located at the entrance of the centre, which recognised the identity of each person by instantly showing their face.

This innovative method aimed at effectively and securely streamlining the identification process through facial recognition was highly appreciated by all attendees for its ease of use and speed of access.

It is a much more agile system and also gives us full guarantees that the people who are accessing are those who have been invited or have officially registered for the event".

The use of facial biometrics at events of this nature not only allows for greater efficiency and security in access control, but also facilitates better registration and tracking of attendees, which is very useful in the event of emergencies or unforeseen situations.

Quick and autonomous registration

In order to use the system, attendees could register either remotely from their own mobile phone or in person. They only had to complete a short registration process, which took just a few seconds, to receive their biometric QR that would allow them access on the day of the event.

Veridas’ technology converts the user’s photo into an irreversible biometric vector that cannot be returned to the original photo or used for any other purpose. In this sense, Veridas provides all the guarantees of privacy and data protection in accordance with all current regulations.

As for the access through the terminal, it was done through one of the new models called Storm Zero, which is specifically equipped and designed for outdoor use. It has IK10 anti-vandalism certification (shock resistance) and IP65 certification for extreme conditions such as rain, and as it does not store biometric vectors, the number of users that can use the same terminal is infinite.

Guardia Civil, technology at the service of public security

Veridas is actively collaborating in several projects with the Guardia Civil aimed at contributing to the digitalisation and improvement of the institution thanks to biometric technologies.

"At Veridas we are very proud to have once again been part of the Guardia Civil's flag swearing-in event, where we have once again demonstrated the effectiveness and security of our technology. That an institution of the size and relevance of the Guardia Civil trusts in our technologies is a clear sign of our strength and growth".

More than 5 million accesses so far this year

Veridas access technology has carried out more than 5 million accesses so far this year with outstanding projects such as access to Spain LaLiga Football Stadiums, sports clubs throughout Spain or the corporate headquarters of companies such as Repsol or BBVA.

There is no doubt that facial biometrics is emerging as a technology that is increasingly present in our day-to-day lives, allowing us to improve security and efficiency in all kinds of events and situations.
